Member Update: Angelo Peluso
LIOCN member Angelo Peluso is pleased to announce that effective with the August 18th issue he will once again be writing the bi-weekly “Fishing and Outdoors” column for the Times Beacon Record family of Long Island newspapers. Angelo’s column is a general outdoors and fishing column that will appear in both the print and digital versions of the newspapers. The column will run in all editions: The Village Beacon Record; The Port Times Record; The Village Times Herald; The Times of Middle Country; The Times of Smithtown; The Times of Northport; and The Times of Huntington. Member Update: William Doc Muller
Hello all,
I am pleased and honored to announce that one our very own, William Doc Muller, has enjoyed yet another significant publishing event . Doc’s latest novel, Vanishing Cures, is hot off the press and available as a great summer read. I’ve already begun enjoying Doc’s words and plot. The novel received an Editor’s Choice Award. As many of you know Doc is a talented and prolific writer. He has published eight non-fiction books, thousands of magazine articles, short stories and an earlier novel, Plague of Terror. Doc holds a PhD in biology and is a professor emeritus from New York Institute of Technology. And on top of all that, he is a legendary surf fisherman! Severin becomes addicted to the adrenaline rush, but his biggest challenges may found in his personal and professional relationships. Thwarted by corruption, snafus among international agencies, and a savvy opponent, the sting is threatened; Severin and Krueger are targeted as they pursue the criminals from the U.S. to Europe and back. Only time will tell if they’ll be victorious over the evil that looms.

Hope the spring is treating you well...just wanted to let you know that I made contact with the NYSOEA and the organization picked up the story on the children's writing contest and featured it in their June issue. You can check it out at nysoea.org. The organization is administered by SUNY Cortland and links to all the school districts througout New York State. I should have some idea about contest number two before we meet for the elusive dinner. We may have a few options to consider. Stay well...AP

Youth Writing Awards Ceremony
The awards ceremony for the Youth Fishing Essay Contest was held on Saturday February 27 at the Suffolk County Boat and Sportfishing Show. The event was well attended with all winners and their families in attendance. We also had a terrific show of support from The Fisherman magazine and LIOCN to help out with the event. Fred Golofaro, Doc Muller, Mike Caruso, Bob Banfelder, Donna Derasmo, Tim Smith, Jerry Collins (Captain Kayak) and yours truly, AP, were in attendance. The certificates and prizes were awared in the lecture hall of the college but we took the awarding of the grand prize out onto the floor of the show. That proved to be a real attention getter and it was an enjoyable and fun experience for all.
By all meaures, the contest was a success. We granted fifteen 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes and five special recognition awards that included the Grand Prize. Special thanks go to Captain Kayak and The Fisherman for obtaining the Hobie Kayak and to Chris Paparo and Atlantis Marine World for three very special awards. Thanks also go out to a number of LICON members for their gracious contributions: William Doc Muller; Kevin Falvey; Zeno Hromin; Nick Karas; John Skinner; Tom Melton;Tim Smith; Al Lorenzetti and AP. Other awards were donated by Albright Tackle, Shimano, Daiwa, Zebco/Quantum, Matzuo/South Bend, Pure Fishing, J&H Super Outlet, George Povermo, Larry Czonka and Roland Martin.

Congratulations John Skinner
Congratulations and kudos to LIOCN member John Skinner for his recent New York State record false albacore that pushed the scale to 16.4 pounds. That is a very substantial little tunny for this neck of the woods, or anywhere along the east coast. Once again, congratulations.
